What Do You Think Facebook is Announcing Today?

This afternoon I’ll be on CNBC discussing Facebook’s announcement.  I’ve been noodling on what the announcement could be.  Here are a few thoughts.

  • If a Vine imitation is in the works, this would be GREAT.  We use Vine often for our clients – it’s short simple and easy to digest.  They already have a huge instagram audience this would satisfy marketers ie, our clients!  Vine is killing Instagram share on twitter right now, so this would be a good move.
  • There are three cores to their business – timeline, newsfeed and search graph – they have enhanced the first two – an enhancement to search graph would be great as well.
  • Since Google axed their Reader, it may be an RSS reader, but I don’t think so.  There has already been a massive migration to Feedly.
  • I think a RSS reader update wouldn’t be exciting at all and would fall flat for investors, but would help brands. Brands want to be in the newsfeed and this would help expedite that.

Facebook is still the most powerful advertising platform for our clients.  Media buy plus posting great content = CONTEXT and sales.  The more they enhance this the  greatly the likelihood that advertisers will be successful.  Simplifying ad spend will help.

Vine works great across our clients – no matter which vertical your business. If they make instagram support video it could be a game changer.   Vine videos of runners raising money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are always shared, as are short vine videos of the lobby and entry way to our hotel clients like Sanctuary Hotel stimulate interest and are easy to digest.  The reality is that as a culture we digest these little bits of videos easily and it works!!

See you on air at 4:20pm on CNBC!
